When high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is diagnosed with cancer, he is devastated. Without money he cannot afford the therapy. Out of sheer financial distress, he begins to use his knowledge of chemistry to his advantage in unorthodox ways. With the help of small-time dealer Jesse (Aaron Paul), he begins to produce the drug crystal meth. What initially happens out of sheer necessity quickly develops into a maelstrom of violence and greed for money from which there is no escape. The two of them get more and more into the drug environment and thus endanger not only themselves but also everyone around them. Walter White's increasing selfishness also endangers his pregnant wife Skyler (Anna Gunn) and son Walter Jr. (RJ Mitte ). That his brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris) also works for the American Drug Enforcement Agency and quickly gets on the trail of the ominous Dr. Heisenberg, whom Walter adopted as his alter ego, doesn't make things any easier. But even Jesse, who met Walter when he was still at school, is beginning to get used to money and luxury. The two increasingly underestimate the fact that drug dealers are not to be trifled with.
